Welcome to - your quick and easy guide to planning a visit to the World Gurning Championship in Egremont, West Cumbria

Gurning, huh? So what's it's all about?

Gurning is the art of pulling ugly faces and at the small village of Egremont in West Cumbria, they've been doing it for centuries. That's where the World Gurning Championships are held every year, in a tradition that dates back to 1266.

If you are planning on visiting the Egremont Crab Fair (of which the World Gurning Championships is part), please note that the event is held on the third Saturday of September each year).

Whether you are visiting simply to spectate or whether you're wishing to come away crowned the ugliest man or woman in the world - then this simple map will help you plan your stay. Here we have collated hotels, B&Bs, holiday cottages and campsites/caravan parks into one easy-to-use, interactive map.

Simply zoom in and out to view locations in and around Egremont, or drag the map to locations further afield if, for instance, you wanted your main base to be in the Lake District National Park to the east.
